LCIHA Finances

  • Tom King reported approximately $11,000  in the LCIHA account.  Chris Burnham will be stepping down as LCIHA treasurer.  Mr. McNellis will be asked to complete the LCIHA taxes as he has done in prior years. The City has approved $30,000 in the next fiscal year budget for LCIHA improvements.  The City and County are negotiating acquisition of the “boards” which the county purchased last year.
  • For the first time the City has requested a list of our membership so they can check it against their PAYS training list.  In order for LCIHA to continue to receive city support (currently $4000/year), all youth players must have at least one parent attend PAYS training during the year.
  • The City will change their allocation of city sports sponsorship to a “need” based system.  There is currently $60,000 budgeted for city sports of which LCIHA receives $4000.  Tom will propose increasing our allocation to $6000 next year, $3000/season.

Membership Coordinator Role

  • Tom Kellner has volunteered to take on the role of Membership Coordinator.  JP has been performing this function in the past.  Tom will “get the word out” to the schools regarding LCIHA.  Emma Norris and Philip Zakahi volunteered to help Tom in this effort.  USAHI has a “Learn to Play” program that teaches the game of inline hockey to young players.  Tom King suggested going to the Elementary schools and putting on a demo of inline hockey.  Emma suggested contacting the Enrichment Program coordinators at the elementary schools and try to participate in them.  Shirley Flores suggested adding a “middle school” division similar to our current high school division to recruit and retain more middle school aged players.
  • Nancy Peckham, LCIHA registrar, reported the following player breakdown under the new USAHI divisions (using our current membership)
      U10 -  13    1995 or later
      U12 – 16    1993 or later
      U14 – 17    1991 or later
      U16 – 32    1989 or later
      U18 – 20    1987 or later
      O18 – 22    1986 or earlier
      O30 – 31    1975 or earlier (includes O30W)

Elections

  • Peter Kane has stepped down as a BOD.
  • Emma Norris was elected to the board by a majority of ballots cast by attending members.  Her term starts immediately.
  • Shirley Flores put herself forward as Treasurer and was elected by a majority show of hands of the attending membership.  Her term starts as of 7/1/2005
  • Nancy Peckham put herself forward as Secretary and was elected by a majority show of hands of the attending membership.  Her term starts as of 7/1/2005
  • David Rockstraw proposed stepping down as a BOD and Philip Zakahi suggested increasing the board membership from 9 members to 11.  Discussion ensued but no consensus was reached.

Draft

  • Discussion regarding the effectiveness and continuation of the current “draft” system was initiated.  Consensus was reached that the current draft procedures will remain in place, ie. (a) Players from returning teams to an age division  will not be placed into the draft pool, (b) Individual players entering a new division will be placed into the draft pool, (c) Players from a returning team which does not have enough players to be a team will be placed into the draft pool, (d) Players from a team which is moving up into the next division as a whole team will not be placed into the draft pool.
  • The draft procedures will need to be revisited if any division receives a large number of new players

Open Forum

  • Nancy Peckham, LCIHA Registrar, proposed that for the Fall season each coach will receive a “packet” of all required forms which MUST be completed by the players/parents of their team BEFORE their TEAM can play any games.  For the adult teams, the oldest member of the team will receive a packet which he/she will be responsible for and ensure all players on their team complete before the entire team can play.  PAYS will be excluded from the deadline.  If a player’s paperwork is not complete, then they will be dropped from the team before the team can play a game.
  • Derrik Wootton, LCIHA League Commissioner, proposed that starting in the Fall he will address the parents before each game stressing PAYS and parent sportsmanship.  He will make himself available during youth games so the youth referee has a non-partisan adult to consult should any parent exhibit un-sportsmanlike behavior.  David Rockstraw stressed addressing any problems at the moment they occur, thus stopping game play and having the coaches and referee address the spectators as a group (rather than any individual parent).  Derrik suggested that during the Coach meeting, sportsmanship should be stressed as well – if a team is up 12 to 0, the winning coach should allow his less skilled players to play rather than playing his strongest.  Derrik also pointed out that if a spectator/parent is asked to leave the game then LCIHA must report the incident to the City.  The City then takes action and usually requires that the parent cannot attend any games for 6 months to a year.

Meeting adjourned at 8:00 pm
