Minutes:

v    NOTE: On Wednesday, September 25th, Joe Short sent the BOD, League officers and other involved LCIHA members an e-mail. The e-mail outlined his position that the formation of the Scorpions was not a violation of the by-laws, intentionally or unintentionally. He also explained the reasoning behind Ben Clark’s being asked to find another team to play on. He went on to say that he and Chris had decided that the correct thing to do was to disband the team, that they would be informing the team members of this decision immediately, and that he was sure that all members would want to play on other teams. He further stated that he would like to address the Board in a future meeting to discuss some of his concerns about the league.

v    Dennis convened the meeting, stating that we were here to here any rebuttal from Joe Short regarding the actions taken by the BOD the previous week, and to reassign the players from the Scorpions. Cathy Short stated that Joe’s e-mail was basically his rebuttal. She reiterated that they did not feel that the Scorpions had been formed illegally according to the existing by-laws. Dennis said that she had a point, the by-laws do need some work; however, the majority of the Board had felt that the team should be disbanded and obviously they had reached that same conclusion so at this point we need to get the players reassigned and move on. Lisa Maurer asked for a commitment by the Board that the by-laws be cleaned up so that a similar situation didn’t arise again.

v    Derrik said that we will probably go to a true draft next season in order to rebalance the talent on the teams and because we will be aligning our age groups with USAHI due to the growing membership. The only exception to the draft will be that coach’s kids will be allowed to play on their parent’s teams. Chris Christeson said he feels that a true draft is O.K. for the older kids, but thinks it will be detrimental for the younger ones who are just developing their skills. Derrik said that he sees his point, but we are getting too big to continue forming teams the way we have been (considering buddy requests, carpools etc. in team formation meetings).

v    Scorpion players will be reassigned as follows:

o       Chris Maurer and Dan Short will play up for the O16 Anocondas. Since the adult league plays the late games, they may miss some parts of some games because they also play in El Paso on Saturday evenings. An effort will be made to rework the schedule so that they miss as few games (or parts of games) as possible

o       Daniel Castelo and Sean Flynn will play for the Hawks, who are short 2 players. J.P. pointed out that we are now in danger of stacking the Hawks and creating the same problem all over again. The BOD felt that this wasn’t cause for immediate concern since all of the teams are likely to be reshuffled next Spring anyway.

o       Eric Short will be reimbursed for his 14-16 registration fee, and just play in the 10-13 league with his current team.

o       No one has been able to contact Daniel Lee. Once someone reaches him, he will be reassigned to the Desert Storm since they have only 6 players.

v    The schedule will need to be reworked so that all of the remaining 14-16 teams have the same number of games. Schedule changes will be posted on the website as soon as they are made, and all players and coaches will be informed of the changes.

v    Cathy Short asked when the BOD elected new members. Derrik told her that most of the Board’s terms would expire next fall. We just appointed some new Board members so that terms would be staggered, and these newer members would likely form a committee to nominate possible replacements for the outgoing Board members.

Respectfully Submitted: Patty Walters, Secretary, LCIHA
