Bulldawgs win city inline championship

The Las Cruces Bulldawgs overcame a two-goal deficit at the start of the third period on Thursday to win the Las Cruces Inline Hockey Association City Championship game, 7-6, over Oñate High.

Ryan Rockstraw scored the title-winning goal with 33 seconds remaining in the game. The Cruces team stormed out to a quick 2-0 lead on goals by Ben Clark and Rockstraw, but Oñate quickly tied the game.

Clark scored a second time late in the first period to give Cruces a 3-2 lead at the end of the first period.Oñate owned the second period, scoring three times on goals by Diego Acosta, Brandon Coughlin and Brad Knopp to take a 5-3 lead at the end of the second.

Cruces slowly worked their way back into the game in the third behind strong netminding by Wes Sanders.

Goals by Phillip Pisarski and Phillip Zakahi tied the game with a couple minutes remaining, with Rockstraw’s goal finishing the deal. Cruces won the first game of the series two weeks ago, giving them a two-game sweep of the Black Knights in the best of three championship series.

Aggie track & field wraps up season

The New Mexico State Track and Field team wrapped up the 2005 season at the NCAA Midwest Regional Track and Field meet in Norman, Okla., this weekend.

Juniors Erin Streater and Grace Thomson, along with sophomore Sandra Anane represented the Aggies at the regional meet.

“I’m really proud of these three athletes and the way they competed here this weekend,” head coach Ed Crawford said. “All three athletes had tremendous seasons and I’m looking forward to seeing them compete at a higher level next year.”

All three athletes competed on Friday night, starting with Streater in the hammer. Streater placed 13th in the hammer throw with a toss of 176-10. Saturday night, Streater placed 10th in the shot put with a heave of 47-01.75. Streater ends her season as the school record holder in the hammer throw (181-07) and the shot put (49-03), while also being named the 2005 Sun Belt Conference Field Athlete of the Meet at the conference championship.

Thomson competed in the 5,000-meter run Friday night, crossing the finish line in a time of 17:57.50, placing 15th overall. Thomson finishes her season as the school record holder in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the Sun Belt Conference High Score of the Meet at the conference championship.

Anane competed in the long jump Friday, placing 16th overall after a leap of 18-08.50. Saturday night, Anane ended her season with an 11th place finish in the triple jump. Anane’s jump measured 39-08.75.
