What is the LCIHA?
  • The acronym LCIHA stands for
      Las Cruces Inline Hockey Association.

  • The LCIHA administers youth inline hockey in Las Cruces.  This supervised program follows  the rules & regs of the sanctioning body,
    USA Hockey In-Line.

LCIHA Organizational Structure
  • LCIHA operates exclusively as a non-profit educational organization (Section 501(c) 3) providing a supervised hockey program.
  • LCIHA incorporated in July 2001 and entered into a contract to use city facilities with the CLC through the Parks & Recreation Board in September 2001.
  • The LCIHA is managed under a set of by-laws by an elected board of directors, composed of nine members representing players, coaches, and parents.
4
LCIHA Mission
  • The LCIHA stresses the ideals of good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, integrity, teamwork, and respect for authority while promoting and teaching the sport of hockey.

  • LCIHA members adhere to the philosophy that the molding of future citizens is of prime importance and the attainment of exceptional athletic skill or the winning of games is secondary.

5
LCIHA Policy
  • The LCIHA has maintained a policy of not leaving anyone behind.  LCIHA regularly sponsors at risk youth each season, covering all registration fees, as well as taking special circumstances into consideration to assure all participate at a comfortable level.

  • On any given game-day, the LCIHA stages a celebration of friends, family, and sportsmanship as much as it presents an athletic competition.

New Member Impression
  • I just want to comment that I have been SO impressed with this league and all the parents and participants.  It has been a welcome change from so many other sports leagues in Las Cruces that are so competitive.  I have felt nothing but a positive, supportive attitude since day 1.  I noticed that during games, most of the parents know the names of all the players on both teams, and that they often will cheer for BOTH teams.  I am very pleased with my son's coach, Coach Dan, who is so positive and is always emphasizing team and sportsmanship over individual performance and winning.  I have nothing but positive things to say about this league.  Thank you for bringing a much needed breath of fresh air to the Las Cruces youth sports landscape.

Scheduling Constraints
per facility
  • 3 practice sessions per evening M-Th;
1 session Friday (HS game at 7 PM) = 13
    • Youth teams receive practice session each week
    • High School teams each have one weekly practice
    • Adult pickup game eliminated to accommodate the High School game
    • U10 division currently using Sunday for practice
  • 24 teams = 12 games = 12 hours
    • 8 AM to 8 PM each Saturday (toll on volunteers)
    • Have closed registration for two years at this level
  • Future growth unmanaged at this time
    • membership cap likely
    • adult divisions may be eliminated to accommodate youth division growth
17
Future Growth Needs
  • Expand to accommodate 5 year needs (~$200,000)
    • Replicate facility in open lot to the south
    • two rinks operate simultaneously (double membership)
    • Rearrange into one regulation (185 ft x 80 ft) slab which could be used to stage tournaments and draw teams from El Paso, Albuquerque, Tuscon, Phoenix, Denver, and Dallas.
      • 16 team tournament x $500/team registration fee = $8,000
      • 12 traveling teams, each with 12 participants (4 to a room) and coach, plus family (assume half of players bring parents) = 120 hotel rooms each night of event + local dining

Summary
  • LCIHA has grown significantly in 5 years, reaching the limit of the current facilities to accommodate all wishing to participate two years ago.
  • Upgraded dasherboards and participant area and the addition of lights have greatly enhanced the quality of the inline hockey experience.
  • Continued investment in the LCIHA by the CLC is necessary to allow continued growth and to avoid having to turn participants away.
